SETTLING IN RANDOM THOUGHTS HERE.. BEAR WITH ME...
Life here is very hectic.. more than I thought it would be
once mom was settled here in town. Life in the "rehab"
facility is not the best we can get but what we have to deal
with. Mom has been struggling with things and her life away
from the excellent care she was getting at the hospital. Anybody
knows that settling into a new place takes time. New routines
and new people and they take time to learn. Fear takes a big
toll on mom there too. The bed is smaller and there is no rail
on the sides to make sure she won't fall out.(they are working
to help that situation)or at least there is a promise to help it.
Sis and I have decided that if she does fall we will arrange
for help at home and keep her there the best we can. I have
done this kind of work for over 20 years so I do know what it
takes and will take whatever help I can get to keep her safe.
Many of you have had similar situations I am sure and know
what I mean.

In the past two days I have seen mom in PAIN and
no one co-operating to help relieve it any .. except for a tylenol.
Having taken pain pills over the past 10 years for degenerative
arthritis.. a tylenol doesn't help her the least little bit. I took charge
and told the LPN on duty that something should be done immediately!
They used extra blankets for warmth and not much else. Being the weekend
they had to try to get ahold of a Dr. in charge so I told them to
DO IT.. in the meantime I used some warming creams that helped a lot. Well there is more to the story but I hate to rant too much here.
Her treatments
take a long time and a lot out of her too. If you had ask her
two months ago if she wanted the treatments she would
have told you NO over and over again. When the urgency of
the situation came up she agreed. YES she can say NO she
doesn't want any more and face the inevitable conclusion,
but she is not ready yet to make that decision. So the days
roll on and many things have to be settled. I am thankful the
nights are long so that the dark comes early and I can go to
bed and sleep if I can when my mind isn't thinking too much.
It's been a long time since
visiting many of you and I hope to catch up with extra time
waiting while mom has her treatments. The library there is
close by. The weather here is getting colder and at least
we haven't had any flakes yet. The walks in the cold will
do me good to clear my head some.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT WEEK AHEAD!!
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT..WHEW!! I barely had time to breathe yesterday. It started before
daylight and went on until after dark. Mom was finally transferred
to her dialysis center where she got a treatment and then
transferred again to our hometown tendercare facility. While she was
at her treatment I investigated WHY my cell phone was acting out
and not working! Talk about frustrated!
I spent almost an hour
in the SHAK trying to get it resusuitated.... but no matter what they
did .. it was fruitless. I pronounced it over and moved on to the
21st century. Those great people there ..especially AMANDA,
worked pretty hard to try to get it working. Now I have a new baby
to try to figure out how to make work. SHE said it was easy . but it's NOT!
It rings and I can call out so I am happy with that!! I rushed through
lunch and went to the KMT to get some items I knew mom would need.
When I arrived back at the treatment center.. She was the last one
left in the chair at 5:10 PM. The ambulance people showed up right
on time about 10 minutes later and she was carted yet again back
to her hometown. She is getting well known by all those ambulance
drivers. I think she has taken about 5 rides in the past 10 days.
THANKS ANITA!!!

Sis and I were satisfied with her PRIVATE room (so far) at the
facility. (I hate callling it a home.. cause it isn't to her) We have
been calling it REHAB to mom. She will have rehab when she can
tolerate it to try to get her strength back. The only thing that kept
me sleepless at 2 AM was the lack of close care regarding her
meds etc and her BED. It was way too small and no rails so
she could fall out very easily. We set the bed as low to the
floor as we could get it! I sat chairs right up against
it so she would not fall out on either side. Crazy!! Will go out
today and try to solve that whole situation, and take the camera.
YOU KNOW how I am.. I've got to document everything!!!
Meanwhile the house at home looks like a BOMB went off.
I haven't been home long enough to do much of anything
but will attempt that today!!!
I look at every step as a new one ,and have hopes of improvement
for mom at each new day.
More with PICS coming soon.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!
TODAY'S NEWSToday's news is mom will be transferred to a rehab facility either
later today or tomorrow. When I arrived at the hospital a 9 AM today
they had already done the needle-lung procedure a day early and the RN said they
took 1100 cc off her lungs. It is being tested as I write. I did not get to talk
to the pulmonologist about anything. All these doctor's and they all
have to okay everything before her release. Mom has eaten her meals by herself
with no help and felt that she could. She was NOT made to do anything.
I met with the social worker on the case and she said they were trying
to co-ordinate her transfer and her dialysis treatment which is already
scheduled at another facility here tomorrow afternoon. I told her I thought
transferring mom at NIGHT was nuts and maybe please could they wait
until tomorrow.. She told me that all of this will be taken care of and not
to worry. I told her I worry about PNEUMONIA since mom gets it so easy
and it is so very cold outside now for her. We are hoping that an ambulance can
transport her as it wil be very difficult for my sister and I to handle her alone.
She has a membership that will pay for that.
Tonight we are meeting with the head doctor who admitted mom and
will settle all the questions and what will take place. Mom is very
afraid and does not wish to be "sent someplace" without my sister or
I accompanying her. We wait the decisions of all the doctors on her case.
The long days of waiting and driving back and forth are almost over.
If mom were stronger she would be going HOME.. that has been the goal
and we hope it doesn't take too long for her to reach that.
Home by Thanksgiving sounds wonderful!!

It is cold and rainy here we haven't seen flakes but it sure feels like
it out there. Gas is all over the place now the prices are crazy.
Local stations had it 2.55 and in this town it was almost 12 cents more.
Our local store advertised milk for 2.00 a gallon.. I haven't been in
a store since mom got sick.. guess it is time to stock up again.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
PS Beth Marie.. the card was great amdn MOM really loved it!!
DAYS GO BY...Days drag on here.. you lose track of what day it really is. You know
night and day.. but not what day it really is. The routine goes on...
people coming and going and many names and faces. Keeping them
all straight is a real task. I have taken to taking a picture here and
there to the ones who are working with mom so that if I need to know
who did what at what day or time .. all I need to do it to look over the
pictures.
Mom has had quite a time with getting her blood drawn for any kind of
test. This young gal got her IV started faster than anyone so far. I told
her she deserved a medal for the effort and the skill. When the call goes out
everyone kinda shrugs their shoulders because they have all had their
turn at trying to get the job done with mom. She stepped right up!!
I must say I have never seen such a dedicated staff so efficient and working
together. We had a mix up with the diet and food service and the gal
came all the way from the kitchen up here to explain things and apologize
for the problems. We surely did make the right decision to bring her here
when things decided to get bad with her condition.
We are hopeful that her stay here will end near the end of the week as she
seems to be improving with the many treatments that she is being given.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
LESSONS LEARNEDThis big old house sits way up on a hill. Where the white line
is at the bottom is the sidewalk near the street. I'd hate to heat or
cool that place!!

You sure learn a lot of lessons being around the professionals
in the medical field every day. Double check all your facts and
then double check them again. So many doctors and techs and
helpers running in and out.. youhave a hard time keeping a name straight.
You learn to ask names and look at faces to put them all together
somehow and you learn who is good at their job and who really isn't.
You learn everything is timed out and on a schedule and they pretty
much keep to them too. Things just run smoother that way.
We have been fortunate to have some very dedicated people
helping us try to get mom back home as soon as she can.
I love the trim on this house it almost looks like a doll house. Look at
the pointy roof. This town is loaded with ornate houses with neat
architecture. I love it. Click to see it better.

We are seeing progress now slowly. Mom seems to be feeling better
and that is a good thing. She is with it enough to talk back to her
daytime soaps and cuss out the villians. I would say that is a real
achievement!
fictional person's life. I learned to watch her while she watches her shows
and I can tell a lot about how well she is doing from that. Having all this going on
here and she can still tell you who did what to who.. well that is a really good
sign." Tomorrow is another day"... as Scarlett said,,so we will wait and see
what happens.
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
