On a snowy day here I always bake to make the house

smell good and all warm and cozy. I plan on making

those cookies again for the gals at the center where

mom is.

(sorry if this is blurry.. I am still hosting pictures

and posting them here.)

Here again is the recipe..

SUGAR COOKIE
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar  (must use this!)
1 cup butter ..(I use blue bonnet sticks)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream or tartar

Cream Wet, Mix Dry, Blend together with mixer or by hand.

Chill the dough ..(very important if it is too sticky it will not roll out.)
Roll to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick & use cookie cutters, place cookies on
a floured cookie sheet, and bake...

375 degree oven, 7-8 min (or till done They don't turn too brown, the browner
they are the crispier they will be. Icing them will make them softer the next day.
I use a simple powered sugar, milk,vanilla,and teaspoon of butter icing on them.

I have the crockpot going with beef stew and

will make biscuits to go with it for dinner. I am rarely

home anymore in the afternoons, but today with the snow

outside building, I will be home most of the day.

Funny how you don't think you have a lot to do and then

when you get home.. it is all waiting for you..

Guess What??

Last evening when we visited mom she asked us..

WHEN did this surgery happen? She doesn't remember

a thing at all about the whole weekend. Maybe that is a

blessing in disguise for her. The meds were too powerful

for her and so she had no recollection of the entire

thing. Amazing..because at the time she could talk

to us and was awake and talking etc. I feel an evaluation

of her comprehension again coming on soon.

Well off to shovel some of that fine snow that is falling. I must

say we sure don't get the large flakes we used to get anymore.

Now THAT was pretty.. this looks like a foggy day.

UPDATE from here..

There is a storm brewing here and we are going to get the

heaviest snow of the season. By the time it is done

could be a foot of snow.  I am hoping this is the LAST

storm of the season. Sure would be nice!

I sure am glad they warn us ahead of time so we can plan.

I know the stores today will be packed with people

gathering supplies. I have banking, and planning for

mom to do.

The Superbowl was GREAT! Back and forth you just never knew

who was going to win it. Me.. I fell asleep during it..  Only

for a few minutes or so..it had been a  long day. Glad the Saints won..

it was kinda like a win for the whole country as so many wanted a

big comeback from a city that was nearly wiped off the map.

Mom was released from the hospital yesterday and was kinda mad

when the two young ambulance drivers took her back to the tenderdare.

They kept telling her she was going "HOME" so you can imagine what

she thought. At least she wasn't fighting anyone.  The sun was out,

but she thought it was night.. asked us what we were doing there.

The drugs they gave her were stopped at 8 AM, and were still in her

system at noontime. WE stopped all those. Sometimes the heavy stuff

is NOT REQUIRED and it should be a "wait and see" how the pain is

before dosing someone. Especially Mom!  We stayed until the

Superbowl started some and then went home for the rest of the

game. It was eery I tell ya.. NO ONE in the halls at the tendercare..

there are usually many sitting around in the lobby at that

time of night.

So many sets with the game on you could hear it echo in the

building. DO people there watch the game? I can say YES THEY
DO! !

I missed about 5 minutes or so of the game when I dozed off.

That was sure a surprise because I was enjoying the game

so much. The commericals were good too. The one with the

DOG collar on the man was hilarious.. I liked it a lot. Who knows

what  the product  was .. guess I wasn't paying attention to that!

Gathered my goodies for Superbowl night and seemed

like everyone was in the store yesterday. Very busy where

I was. They ran the specials on chips and dips and drinks

as usual. I got to thinking about how the Supebowl got it's

name.. Came across this on line thought maybe some of

you had not heard it either..

 

Some Super Bowl Trivia:  The first Super Bowl (1967) was broadcast on

 both NBC and CBS (with different announcers).  Did you know that the

 Super Bowl got it’s name from an 8-year old girl?  Sharron Hunt was

the young daughter of Lamar Hunt, the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs.  At the

time she was playing with a small rubber ball called a “super ball”

From watching his daughter he got the idea that the pro football

championship game be called the “Super Bowl”. Lamar suggested

that name to the other owners and they bought the idea!  For some

Bowl is the #1 most watched TV program of the entire year. 

 It’s the 2nd top day of the year for food consumption in the U.S. during the year –

(GUESS they got smart and decided to only have them in warm states from

then on,) I am hoping for a good game and not one sided and lots of great commercials.

I saw on tv that more and more people are submitting their own commercials

this year and can win big money too. Some of them are hilarious. Just goes to show

that AMERICAN people have a great sense of humor and talent.

Snow is predicted here for Tuesday and onto Wednesday.. I was hoping it would move

more north of me. Traveling in that back and forth is impossible. Heck with 8" predicted

I won't even get out of my Driveway without a PLOW. I attempted to snow throw

that much last year and it took 2 days as my thrower is not that powerful. I wait to

see what God gives us...I am hoping not to have to stay over as they frown on that

at that hospital.Oh well a heavy snowfall would be an emergency I guess.

FIRST ...

I have to say that I have been away a lot from the Spaces

family because of my "family".. but hearing about a

very dear Spaces family member passing was such

a shock. Our "DUCKIE" has went on to dance with the

angels. I send my thoughts and prayers to her children

and family members. Eileen..you left us with your thoughts

and memories and shared your life with us. You will

be very missed by us all..

Mom came through her operation okay. She was pretty

out of it though. It took longer for her to get  through

the anesthesia than the operation took. Sis and I both

began to worry after 3 hours passed and she was not

assigned a room. We left her last night because

she was sedated with pain meds and asleep. Today

she is up and eating her breakfast and looks pretty good

for what she has been through. She will recieve a

treatment today in the hospital and then may be

released tomorrow. It all depends on her progress and

what the surgeon wants. Mom was alert and doing

very well before her surgery and we were so pleased.

This being a new hospital to her she was very curious

about everything .

 I include a pic of the fancy fish tank

in the waiting room but the lobby is one of the main

focal points.. I will get more pics of that today..

it does remind you of a hotel in some ways...

There are no cell phones allowed in the rooms

or the hallways and no Wifi.. this hospital is pretty

strict. Not too thrilled with that. 

Plenty of calling down in the waiting area though. 

Much more later .. The sun is shining here but cold

cold here this morning. So glad we are not getting

the snow they are on the east coast.

 

When I used to go junior high I would get out

of school and walk the 2 blocks to my house and

get home just in time to catch my  mom watching

her favorite show.. Days of Our Lives..

I was saddened to hear that the matriarch of

that show Frances Reid, who had been on it since 1965 died

yesterday at 95 years old. If you ever watched

it, you would know how beloved this woman

was. There are few women actresses who have

a history of work as long as hers was. My thoughts

and prayers go out to her family and those at

DOOL who felt that she was family also.

PS no.. I haven't told mom that she passed

it would be just too sad for her.

I hope to be able to keep everyone up to

date on how things go with Mom if I can get

the time. I will be spending most of the time

away from home though, so I hope that I can get near

a WiFi connection so I can catch you all up.
